Once known as Thunder Valley, Clyde B. Smith purchased the property in 1981 and transformed the limestone cliffs, oak trees and clear springs into a small resort with an outstanding and acclaimed 18-hole championship golf course. His goal was to create a golf club for local residents and an active retreat for visitors – and he succeeded.
In the 1990’s, new owners added an executive 9-hole course and conference center, attracting a wider range of uses for the beautifully sited property.
In 2011, businessman Tom Cusick and Country music legend George Strait purchased the resort, determined to return it to its original grandeur and beyond.
